Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Breast Care Unit at Torbay Hospital, working 30 hours per week on a permanent basis.
Our dedicated team of 13 breast care nurses provides high-quality, patient-centred care in line with national guidelines for individuals diagnosed with breast cancer.
We welcome applications from candidates with or without specialist qualifications as full on-the-job training will be provided, including a structured development pathway for those who do not currently meet the desirable criteria for a Band 6 post.
If you do not hold the specialist qualification, you may be considered for a Band 5 developmental role. In this case, you will be supported to undertake the necessary training and development to progress to a Band 6 Breast Care Nurse position within a one-year timeframe.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Breast Care Nurse with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary professional team to assess care needs and to plan, deliver and evaluate care programmes.
Your duties will include although not limited to:
* CNS case load of breast cancer patients 80-100 annually.
* To develop the skills to manage a caseload of cancer patients, covering all clinics.
* To act as an educator to other healthcare professional including supporting and developing our Junior staff

* the skills to manage a caseload of cancer patients in the Surgical/Oncology unit
To provide:
* nursing contribution in co-ordinating the care of patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
* specialist nursing contribution to the decision making process within multi-professional teams, offering support and education to patients, carers and families.
* support for Breast Care Clinical Nurse Specialist in nurse led Breast Care Unit clinics and provide support during Annual leave and study leave
To act:
* as an educator to other health care professionals with regard to the psychosocial support of cancer patients.

* NMC Registered (Level 1)
* 2 years post registration experience
* Advanced communication skills training
* Level 2 counselling course
