Nuclear Engineer – Frazer-Nash Consultancy

Salary: £35,000 to £50,000 per annum (depending on experience).

Location: Bristol, Gloucester, Glasgow, Leatherhead, Burton or Manchester.

Working pattern: Flexible hybrid – time split between office, client sites and working from home.

Responsibilities

* Apply engineering skills to design, construct, operate, maintain, defuel, and decommission nuclear facilities.
* Communicate effectively with clients and within cross‑functional teams.
* Engage in the full project lifecycle – from opportunity identification and proposal writing to efficient management and seamless project closure.
* Contribute to projects such as support for the UK’s operating nuclear reactor fleet, next‑generation SMRs and AMRs, decommissioning at Sellafield, Dounreay, NRS sites, and the UK NDA estate, development of the UK Geological Disposal Facility, safety‑case development, UK fusion programme support, submarine fleet support, and safety reviews of nuclear facilities.


Essential Qualifications

* Degree or Master’s in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or equivalent.
* 2–4 years of civil nuclear or defence nuclear infrastructure experience.
* Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Desire to develop and grow nuclear capabilities.
* Willingness to travel and spend time on client sites.


Desirable Qualifications

* Basic project‑management understanding.
* Awareness of regulatory compliance governing nuclear sites.
* Systems engineering knowledge.
* Understanding of safety‑case processes.
* Knowledge of nuclear physics, reactor operations, and fuel management.
* Radiological safety awareness.
* Basic environmental engineering for waste management and remediation.


Pre‑employment Screening

Candidates must undergo pre‑employment screening and satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
