Job Overview
We are recruiting motivated Emergency Care Assistants (ECA) to join our Emergency Department team, supporting our vision of outstanding care for patients.
The ECA works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, compassionate care to patients and their families/carers.
ECAs are required to undertake Care Certificate training and a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare Support, unless they already hold a recognised qualification or experience at a comparable level.
This post is based in the Emergency Department but may involve working across the Urgent & Emergency services at Lister Hospital including AMU, SDEC, UTC.
Main Duties
* Assist nursing staff in maintaining a safe environment and delivering high‑standard patient care.
* Perform baseline observations, ECG recording, cardiac monitoring, venepuncture, cannulation, basic life support.
* Provide wound care, closure techniques, support/splintage under nurse instruction, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, and assist patients with mobility, nutrition, hygiene, and comfort.
* Learn basic layout and functioning of medical equipment.
Qualifications & Training
* Good basic education – English & Maths (GCSE or equivalent).
* Care Certificate or Level 2 Apprenticeship in Health Care.
Previous Experience
* Ability to work closely with all grades of staff.
* Adaptability, prioritising work under pressure.
* Experience interacting with the general public and patients.
* Operation of equipment such as ECG Machine, Bladder Scanner, urinalysis.
* Previous employment in a health care setting.
Key Skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Self‑motivated and effective team member.
* Basic IT skills – keyboard proficiency.
* Excellent time management and organisational skills.
* Ability to work in a busy environment and use judgment to escalating issues.
* Specific clinical skills: cannulation & venepuncture, performing ECG, immobilisation and casting, wound care, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, bladder scans.
