The Role
We are seeking an inspiring and highly motivated Assistant Headteacher & SENCO to join our leadership team. This is a key strategic role combining senior leadership responsibilities with the coordination and development of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision across the school.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping inclusive practice, improving outcomes for pupils with SEND, and contributing to whole-school improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
1. Support the Headteacher in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school
2. Contribute to school improvement planning, self-evaluation, and staff development
3. Lead on specific whole-school priorities (to be agreed based on strengths and experience)
SENCO Responsibilities
4. Lead and manage SEND provision across the school
5. Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice
6. Identify and assess pupils with SEND, coordinating appropriate interventions
7. Work closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies
8. Monitor progress and impact of SEND provision, ensuring high-quality outcomes
Teaching & Learning
9. Model excellent classroom practice
10. Support staff in adapting teaching to meet diverse needs
11. Deliver targeted teaching/intervention where appropriate
The Ideal Candidate Will:
12. Be an experienced, outstanding primary teacher with leadership experience
13. Hold (or be willing to work towards) the National Professional Qualification for SEN Coordination (NPQSENCO) or equivalent
14. Have a strong understanding of inclusive education and SEND provision
15. Be a strategic thinker with excellent communication and organisational skills
16. Demonstrate a commitment to high standards and continuous school improvement
17. Be passionate about supporting every child to succeed
