Job overview

Salisbury Hospital are recruiting for the exciting post of Senior Sister/ Ward Lead for Sarum Ward. The successful candidate will be an experienced nurse with expert knowledge and clinical skills within paediatrics. They will have the ability to provide effective leadership and expertise to support both Sarum Ward and the Children's Day Assessment Unit .

They will ensure the delivery of high standards of care and the efficient management of the ward. They will promote staff development actively supporting staff well being within the team .They will provide an innovative and progressive attitude to the clinical improvement of patient care through audits, research and evidence based practice .

Experience of working at this level will be an advantage and support for further professional development will be facilitated.

Main duties of the job

·To provide effective leadership, expertise, advice, and support to the paediatric inpatient unit: Sarum Ward, including the adjacent Day Assessment Unit (DAU) and ensure the provision of high-quality care to children and families.

·To ensure the safe, effective, and efficient management of the ward within allocated resources.

·To take overall responsibility for standards of cleanliness within clinical areas

·To act as a role model and expert practitioner and contribute to inter-professional team working.

·To recruit and retain a skilled nursing workforce.

·To directly oversee or delegate management of ward clerks and play specialists.

·To facilitate the development, and promote staff wellbeing, of all staff within the team.

·To provide an innovative and progressive attitude to the clinical improvement of patient care through audit, research, and evidence-based practice.

·Manage the ward and be responsible for ensuring 24-hour cover for the service provided and skill mix required.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

1. NMC registration ( Child ) and nursing degree
2. Evidence of ongoing professional development
3. Leadership and management training or experience

Desirable criteria

4. Completion of EPALS

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Recent experience of of taking charge of an acute paediatric ward or department, deputising for the Ward Lead
6. Experience of leading and managing a team of nursing
7. Experience of change management and problem solving
8. Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints

Desirable criteria

9. Experience and knowledge of audits and research

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria

10. Excellent knowledge and clinical skills within paediatrics
11. Excellent leadership, management and organisational skills
12. Ability to problem solve and initiate change
13. Understanding of current issues in Children's nursing and service provision
