Our department is friendly, open, active and progressive. We have over 40 permanent Medical Staff at Consultant, Specialist and Speciality Grades. In ITU our Consultant Body comes from Anaesthetic & Medical backgrounds with dual and single CCTs. We have Resident Doctors on training and fixed term posts from foundation year to senior registrar.
The Anaesthetic and Intenisve Care Teams provide for patients across all areas of the hospital and community. We support the Emergency Department receiving and the acute site with active admissions across all specialities for all ages. We provide anaesthesia for a wide range of specialties including Maxillofacial, ENT, Vascular, Trauma and Orthopaedics & General surgery. We have well developed Chronic and Acute Pain Teams.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will undertake an initial period of directly supervised training in order to ensure readiness for the on call and out of hours work.
On‑call work will then involve covering one of the four resident on‑call bleeps providing 24/7 cover. There is readily available consultant support.
The post involves working a 1 in 8 pattern of on‑call:
* Long days (including 1 in 8 weekends) 08:00 to 20:30 in Anaesthetics & 08:30 to 21:00 in ITU
* Nights – 20:00‑08:30 (including 1 in 8 weekends) in Anaesthetic & 20:30‑09:00 in ITU
* The above is in addition to standard days 0800 to 1700 in operating theatres or ICU

Glan Clwyd Hospital is situated adjacent to the A55 in the centre of North Wales. It is easily commutable from Cheshire and the Wirral or Bangor and Anglesey, giving a wide range of opportunities for city and rural living. There is free parking for staff on site.
The hospital is a large district general hospital with a busy Emergency Department receiving 24‑hour admissions. It hosts a Primary PCI Centre, Tertiary Maxillofacial Surgery and Acute Oncology Services. It has a full Maternity & Obstetric Service, Paediatrics, a Subregional NICU as well as Acute Medical and Surgical Intakes.

Essential Criteria
* Medical degree
* Registered with the GMC

* Qualifications in teaching or research
* Relevant Higher Medical Qualifications – Partial or Complete
Experience
Essential Criteria
* Previous clinical experience in Acute Medicine or Surgery
* Logbook evidence of clinical experience to date
Desirable Criteria
* Clinical experience in Anaesthesia or Critical Care
* Specialist skills or experience
* NHS experience
