Teaching Assistant - 1:1 SEN Support

A welcoming and well-regarded primary school in Barking and Dagenham, East London is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a nurturing and inclusive school community. The position is expected to run until at least July, with the possibility of becoming a permanent role.
The school is a two-form entry setting with excellent facilities, catering to pupils from Reception through to Year 6, including a strong SEN provision. It is well connected by public transport and offers a friendly, team-oriented atmosphere. The school is committed to ensuring all children enjoy learning and reach their full potential.
You will be working alongside a supportive and collaborative staff team who are passionate about delivering the best outcomes for every pupil.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Pupils
* Provide tailored 1:1 support for students with SEN
* Assist pupils in progressing academically under teacher guidance
* Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
* Deliver targeted interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis
* Build strong, positive relationships and act as a role model
* Support inclusion and active participation in lessons
* Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Plans
Supporting Teachers
* Assist the class teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment
* Apply strategies to support lesson objectives
* Track pupil progress and provide feedback to the teacher
* Reinforce positive behaviour in line with school policies
* Offer general classroom assistance where needed
Requirements
Essential
* GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above), or equivalent
* Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or supporting children with SEN
Desirable
* Experience providing 1:1 support for SEN pupils (e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH)
* A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related subject
