Job Overview

Fixed term / secondment for 6 months to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.

The post holder is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based nursing care, working collaboratively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. The role involves management and organisation of the clinical area, education, development and supervision of other staff members.


Main Duties

All applicants must be a registered nurse, with recent experience at Band 5 and meet the Band 6 Job Description person specification. Experience in both pathways is essential for this senior nursing post holder. The position involves working as a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse on Ward 7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward, undertaking mentorship of student nurses and preceptorship of newly qualified nurses, while ensuring the fundamentals of care are maintained to a high standard. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

* Essential Criteria
o NMC Registered Nurse
o Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake ALS training
o Significant post‑registration experience at Band 5
o Experience within an appropriate clinical area
o Evidence of good ward organisational skills
o Problem solver, negotiate and communicate with patients and MDT members
o IT skills – email, Word, Myddryn, Oracle, TPATH
o Evidence of knowledge and application of consent, data protection and patient confidentiality
o Evidence of local policies, procedures and guidelines
* Desirable Criteria
o Degree in Nursing or a relevant clinical/professional subject
o Alert, Raat, APLS, PLS (if applicable)
o Experience of undertaking audit work and standard setting
o Advanced clinical skills – venepuncture, phlebotomy, ECG
o Adapt and propose change in working situation
o Knowledge of management theories
o Interview and appraisal process experience
