About the Role
Canterbury Cathedral is seeking a methodical and detail-oriented Accounts Clerk to join our Finance Department on a temporary basis. This role is vital in maintaining the smooth operation of our purchase ledger and payment functions, supporting Canterbury Cathedral and associated charities. You'll also play a key role in preparing for the implementation of a new finance system.
Please note this is a full-time role however we may be able to consider part-time hours (min. 30 per week) for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
• Process purchase ledger invoices: code, input, scan, and distribute for authorisation
• Ensure accurate VAT accounting
• Maintain and update supplier records
• Handle supplier queries and reconcile statements
• Make payments via BACS, electronic methods, or manual cheque
• Analyse aged creditors and credit card transactions
• Process petty cash claims
• Provide cover for the Sales Ledger function
• Assist with data cleansing for new systems
• Attend team meetings and training sessions
What We're Looking For
• Strong purchase ledger and bookkeeping experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Familiarity with computerised accounts systems
• Understanding of internal financial controls
• Numerate and highly organised
