Gilmore Medical Practice is a friendly and forward-thinking GP Practice serving approximately 13000 patients in the city centre of Edinburgh. We are a well-established training practice and are committed to delivering high-quality patient care while maintaining an efficient, supportive working environment for our team.

The Role

We are seeking a proactive and organised Assistant Practice Manager to support the Practice Manager in the day-to day operational management of the practice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their leadership and management skills within primary care, previous experience of working in an NHS environment is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

1. Support the Practice Manager with daily operational and service delivery
2. Supervise and support reception and administrative staff
3. Assist with staff rotas, recruitment and HR processes
4. Monitor performance targets
5. Support financial administration including invoicing and budget monitoring
6. Ensure compliance with NHS contractual requirements
7. Maintain practice policies and procedures
8. Lead specific projects or service improvement initiatives
9. Act as Duty manager in the absence of the Practice Manager

Person Specification

Essential:

10. Experience in a supervisory or team lead role
11. Strong organisational and administrative skills
12. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
13. IT proficiency (e.g. MS office and clinical systems such as Vision or Emis)
14. Understanding of confidentiality and data protection (GDPR)

Desirable:

15. Knowledge of NHS primary care contracts
16. HR and management qualifications (e.g. GPMTP or ILM)
