Strategic Weapons System Support Engineer
Location: Barrow, UK
Duration: 12-month contract
Rate: £72.54 / hour Umbrella OR £53.73 / hour PAYE (+£7.81 / hour Holiday pay)
Work Pattern: 1 week per month on site in Barrow
We seek an engineer who has worked in a military/defence environment within the last 12 months or who is capable of obtaining security clearance (SC level minimum).
Role Overview
We are seeking three royal navy ex-submarine strategic weapons systems (SWS) operators to join a highly niche support team. This is a unique opportunity to work on support solutions and workshop manuals for submarines, contributing directly to operational readiness of strategic weapons platforms.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver support solutions and workshop manuals for submarine strategic weapons systems (SWS).
* Provide technical guidance and advice based on hands-on experience within a SWS environment.
* Work collaboratively with other engineering and operations teams to ensure outputs meet operational and safety requirements.
* Support in-service maintenance and operational readiness of the platform.
* Engage with supervisors, launchers, and camp watch-keepers to understand operational needs and challenges.
* Apply best practices in technical documentation, compliance, and engineering governance.
Essential Skills
* Knowledge of Royal Navy submarine operating profiles.
* Knowledge of the complete engineering lifecycle with some experience of operating in a number of phases.
* Knowledge of MoD and RN organisation and operations.
* Knowledge of Naval Bases, the Facilities and operations.
* Operating or supervising Strategic Weapons Systems on submarines (Petty Officer to Warrant Officer level).
* Strong knowledge of submarine operations and support processes.
* Hands-on experience with maintenance, defect resolution, or operational support of SWS.
* Ability to produce or contribute to technical manuals, workshop guides, and support documentation.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
