A high-achieving independent school in Reading is seeking to appoint a dependable and organised Science Technician to support its successful Science Department across KS3–KS5. This is a key role within a well-resourced faculty where practical science is central to the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and set up experiments in Biology, Chemistry and Physics
* Clear away materials safely and efficiently after lessons
* Prepare chemical solutions and specialist equipment
* Maintain and service laboratory apparatus
* Conduct routine equipment safety checks
* Monitor stock levels and maintain accurate inventory records
* Order chemicals, equipment and consumables within budget
* Ensure safe storage of hazardous substances in line with COSHH regulations
* Maintain up-to-date risk assessments and safety documentation
* Support teachers during practical lessons where required
* Ensure laboratories and prep rooms remain clean, organised and compliant
* Manage safe disposal of chemical and biological waste
The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate
* Experience in a laboratory or school technician role (desirable)
* Strong knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Ability to prioritise workload effectively
* Professionalism and reliability
* A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
