Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer
Package offered for this Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer role:
1. Salary: £60,000 to £75,000 upwards depending on experience
2. Benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, 7.5% company pension contribution, private healthcare and bonus scheme.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer to lead the delivery of safety cases and provide high-level technical expertise on major nuclear projects.
You’ll play a senior role in guiding project teams, influencing client decision-making, and ensuring the safe and sustainable operation of nuclear facilities. With opportunities to work on UK and international projects including Small Modular Reactors, decommissioning, and new build programmes this is a high-profile position for a technical leader.
The key responsibilities for this Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer role are:
3. Lead and verify complex nuclear safety cases and radiological assessments
4. Provide expert advice and solutions to resolve challenging safety and engineering issues
5. Oversee plant modifications, including obsolescence assessments and commissioning strategies
6. Providing specialist technical input and advice to resolve complex problems.
7. Produce of formal technical reports, safety case documentation and other project deliverables on time and to budget.
8. Manage multi-disciplinary teams and act as the primary client interface
9. Contribute to business development through bid management and client networking
10. Mentor and develop junior team members, supporting knowledge transfer across the business
Experience and skills required for this Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer role are:
11. A strong background in nuclear engineering and safety, with 5+ years’ experience
12. Proven track record in authoring and reviewing safety case documentation
13. Experience of radiological assessments and/or hazard analysis reports
14. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong organisational ability and attention to detail.
15. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
16. Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance (BPSS minimum)
17. Knowledge of chemotoxic and/or environmental assessments is desirable
