Overview
The Harbour is a multi‑agency service focused on supporting adolescents to remain in a family setting or to reduce time spent in children’s homes. It operates a hub model co‑located with partners to ensure support, shared understanding and learning.
Role Summary
We are looking for enthusiastic, talented and experienced Speech and Language Therapists to deliver a comprehensive and specialist service to The Harbour Service team and the young people with whom they work. Collaborating with an established Speech and Language Therapist, you will plan, develop and coordinate a communication therapy service for children and young people known to The Harbour Service who have vulnerabilities and complex communication needs.
Responsibilities
* Plan, develop and coordinate a speech and language therapy service for children and young people 11–19 years of age (up to 25 years where they have a special educational need or a disability/ Education Health and Care Plan).
* Identify at a specialist level the type of communication disorder within this client group and provide appropriate interventions, including individual and group programmes.
* Work closely with staff to facilitate their communication skills, including training The Harbour staff and partner agency staff to raise awareness of communication difficulties faced by young people and strategies to support them.
* Provide information and reports to the service lead and relevant management and strategic groups.
* Support children and young people both within The Harbour and on the edge of, in, and leaving care.
* Collaborate with a multi‑agency team that includes Police, Psychologists, Senior Youth Practitioners and Youth Practitioners.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must be experienced Speech and Language Therapists with a track record of working with adolescents and complex communication needs. This is a fixed‑term role. Applicants currently working in the NHS require an existing release for secondment before applying.
