A new and exciting opportunity to support Specialist Patient Pathways within the Community Dental Service.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward‑thinking Specialist Sedation Dental Nurse to join the Birmingham Community Dental Nursing team.
The position will initially be based in Walsall and will support all aspects of the service supporting assessment and treatment under Local Anaesthetic, Sedation and General Anaesthetic at Walsall Manor Hospital.
We are a multi‑disciplinary team that carry out a variety of dental treatments under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.
Responsibilities
* Support the clinical management of the dental specialty and ensure high standards of patient care while adhering to Trust policies and procedures.
* Deliver high‑quality clinical nursing support across Dental Services Division sites, responding to the complex needs of patients meeting specialty criteria.
* Maintain high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics, managing patients with complex dental, social and medical needs.
* Control stock rotation and order dental consumables from appropriate suppliers.
* Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste, including bodily fluids.
* Support recording of patient pre‑operative assessments (e.g., height, weight and blood pressure).
* Carry out any other duties relevant to this role as specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s).
* Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department to support the clinical patient pathway.
* Identify staff and students requiring additional training within the specialty and escalate as appropriate.
* Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.
* Adhere to procedures to support and maintain compliance with national targets.
* Implement agreed local Divisional and Trust policies.
* Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.
Qualifications
* Dental Sedation Certificate for IHS as a minimum.
* Willingness to work towards Dental IV Sedation Qualification and/or Radiography, if not already obtained.
* Up‑to‑date Sedation training and a CPD log relating to the Sedation specialism.
* Flexible and able to travel to other sites/locations within the division as required.
* Experience in a multidisciplinary dental team providing local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.
