An independent specialist school and college in Cannock is seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join their small, dynamic team. This setting supports children and young people from Year 8 to Year 13/14, providing a nurturing and therapeutic environment where every learner is supported to reach their potential.
About the Role
You’ll lead and coordinate SEN provision across the school, working closely with a small team of dedicated teaching assistants and a highly skilled clinical support team.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Leading on all aspects of SEN provision, ensuring compliance and high-quality practice.
* Managing and supporting a small team of teaching assistants.
* Acting as the designated teacher for key meetings with parents, governors, and external professionals.
* Liaising with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver joined-up support for pupils with SEMH needs.
* Overseeing documentation, EHCPs, and reviews with confidence and professionalism.
* (Once settled) delivering approximately 10 hours of literacy and numeracy teaching per week to small SEN groups.
About You
We’re looking for a SENCO who is:
* Qualified and experienced, holding QTS and the National Award for SEN Coordination (or equivalent).
* Skilled in managing and motivating staff to deliver excellent SEN provision.
* Confident in leading meetings, liaising with parents, governors, and external professionals.
* Experienced in supporting children with challenging behaviour and SEMH needs.
* Organised, proactive, and able to “hit the ground running.”
* Passionate about inclusion, resilience, and making a meaningful impact on young people’s lives.
