Job Description
Job Purpose
To take a senior leadership role by conducting internationally-leading research in Cognitive Neuroscience, delivering research-led education, and demonstrating excellence in teaching that supports the strategic objectives of the School/College and enhances the University's reputation. The role involves managing external stakeholder relationships, knowledge exchange, public outreach, and fostering links with professional bodies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership in research and publication to enhance the School’s international research profile, including maintaining a high output of world-class publications and presentations.
2. Sustain internationally leading research activity, seek and secure funding through grant applications, and mentor early career staff.
3. Lead strategic learning and teaching initiatives, embedding a research-led ethos, fostering innovation, and influencing policies.
4. Undertake academic management roles to enhance the student experience and ensure programs are internationally competitive.
5. Supervise research projects, supervise students, and engage with potential research students.
6. Contribute to university committees to advance learning and teaching policies.
7. Build collaborations internally and externally to support research and teaching development.
8. Represent the university externally at events to promote research and teaching excellence.
9. Demonstrate leadership in knowledge creation, transfer, and public engagement.
10. Engage in professional development activities.
11. Perform other duties as required by the Head of School.
Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential: PhD or equivalent in related discipline, extensive research reputation, significant teaching experience, membership of relevant professional bodies, and a thorough understanding of research and teaching trends in Cognitive Neuroscience.
Skills: Proven leadership in teaching, research funding, collaboration, communication, project and people management, supervision, and academic leadership.
Experience: Commitment to open research practices, supporting colleagues’ careers, and engagement with strategic university priorities.
Terms and Conditions
Salary within the Professorial range, full-time, open-ended, with benefits including generous leave, pension, and wellbeing support. The appointment is subject to university policies and external regulations.
