Description
As Director of Data, you will lead our data journey and drive innovation in our expanding international business. Owning and implementing a forward-thinking data strategy, your expertise and direction will be central to the next phase of Progeny’s growth. By spearheading the enhancement of our data architecture, and developing both data science and engineering functions, you will enable the generation of insight and vital foresight to support Progeny’s current and future ambitions.
A motivational leader with a passion for nurturing talent, you will continue to develop the Data team and champion continuous professional development. Strategic, creative, and collaborative, you will serve as a key strategic partner across multiple functions, utilising your deep technical expertise, sector knowledge, and track record of building high-performing teams to develop a first-class data-driven culture.
We will consider both hybrid and home-based working for this opportunity. There will be a requirement to work from the Leeds office on a monthly basis (approximately).
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert strategic knowledge, experience, and an innovative approach to data.
* Develop and implement the data strategy, ensuring it is continually appraised and updated to reflect the strategy of the business.
* Provide inspirational leadership, management, training, and coaching to the Data team, setting a strong people strategy, and developing the team in line with business strategy and budget.
* Oversee the Data Analytics team and their production of near-real-time and historical reporting of all key business metrics in an accessible, scalable reporting suite.
* Develop the team’s Data Engineering, Data Science and Data Governance functions, with a strong focus on partnering with the business to ensure good data stewardship and data quality.
* Work closely with the Director of IT to ensure the compliance, security, and resilience of the data landscape, including in its relevance to Business Continuity, Operational Resilience, and Disaster Recovery planning.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Substantial experience in a senior management position, supervising and providing inspirational leadership and strong management to Data teams.
* Significant experience in delivering excellent data insight solutions for financial and/or legal services businesses (preferably in financial planning and/or wealth management) and understanding of data, processes, and regulations relevant to the provision of these services.
* Experienced in strategic planning, implementing, and managing large-scale, complex data projects.
* Substantial experience in data analytics, data engineering, data warehousing (essential) and data science (preferred).
* Demonstrable expert-level understanding of and substantial experience working with complex data architectures. (Relevant certifications demonstrating proficiency in these architectures are preferred).
* Demonstrable expert-level understanding of technologies such as Azure Synapse Analytics, SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Power BI, and Microsoft Purview.
* Strong understanding of languages such as SQL and DAX.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to tailor information to the audience and present complex information in an accessible form to any stakeholder.
