Job summary
A vacancy has arisen in the Health Board for a Consultant in Oral Medicine based in Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, and working across sites of successful candidate would complement a department of 9 Dental Core Trainees, 1 Specialty Trainee in OMFS and 1 Specialty Trainee in Oral Surgery, 2 Associate Specialists, 6 Specialty Doctors and 7 department currently provides Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Restorative Dentistry & Orthodontic Dentistry for the Cwm Taf Morgannwg & Powys catchment area, incorporating the management of in-patients, Day Cases, Outpatient clinics and Minor Operative Surgery (MOS) lists. We work very closely with our ENT colleagues to provide a robust head & neck cancer service within CTMUHB.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide, with clinical colleagues (as appropriate), a service in the specialty with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients under his/her post holder will be required to participate in CTM UHB's risk management process, Clinical Audit and other clinical governance post holder will be expected to make a significant contribution to the service's business planning process through active participation in the clinical service structure.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will provide with clinical colleagues (as appropriate) a service in the specialty to the hospitals within the CTM UHB, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients under his/her care, allowing for appropriate delegation to, and training of staff. The post holder, in liaison with consultant colleagues will have responsibility for the correct functioning of the department in line with the Operational policy and strategic plan (as amended from time to time) of the post holder will be required to participate in CTM UHB's risk management process and in Clinical Audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the directorate and the UHB. The post holder will be positively encouraged to participate in research and development in line with UHB and NHS post holder will be expected to formulate a personal development plan in conjunction with the Clinical Service Director to identify training and development needs to form part of their whole practice post holder will be expected to make a significant contribution to the services business planning process through active participation in the clinical service see attached Job Description and Personal specification for further details and information

Education/Qualifications/Training
Essential
4. Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
5. Must be on the GDC Specialist Register in Oral Medicine or within 6 months of date of CCST.
6. Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent
7. Fellowship or Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, or equivalent.
8. Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in Oral Medicine or equivalent.
9. Successful completion of an SAC-approved 3 year minimum training programme in Oral Medicine or within 3 months of completion.
10. Current holders of an NHS or honorary NHS consultant contract in Oral Medicine are eligible to be shortlisted.
11. Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 year training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty.
12. Experience of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching.
13. Training in teaching.

14. Recognised university qualification(s) in Dental/Medical Education.
