JOB SUMMARY Location: Paignton, Onsite Employment Type: Permanent/Full Time Join a specialist engineering team developing next-generation high-performance pump lasers for optical amplifiers.
This is a hands-on role where you'll contribute across the full product development lifecycle - from early design and testing through to qualification and supporting global manufacturing teams. What You'll Do * Work closely with design, process, and packaging engineers to drive product development. * Define and document product specifications with senior engineers and product management. * Support chip and device characterisation and analyse performance data. * Participate in cross-functional reviews, project updates, and gate meetings. * Coordinate verification and qualification testing, ensuring accurate data capture and reporting. * Support new product introduction (NPI) activities with remote manufacturing sites. What You'll Bring * Degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field (BSc/MSc). * Understanding of optoelectronic devices, semiconductor physics, or laser technology. * Experience with experimental methods, data analysis, and tools such as Excel or JMP. * Strong problem-solving mindset and eagerness to build practical industry experience. * Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across global teams. * Interest in photonics, optoelectronics, and product development. Bonus Skills * Python for test automation. * 3D design experience (e.g., SolidWorks).
