THE ROLE:
As a Finance Analyst at ScotRail you will provide accurate and timeous financial information to support the Finance Business Partners and their subsequent business directorates. This role is central to the relationship between an individual business area and the finance function. You will ensure that budgets are well constructed, managed and monitored. You will support senior managers in the production and assurance of business cases and plans to deliver improved performance, reduced risk and better value for money.
Key Accountabilities:-
* To support the Finance Business Partners (FBPs) in producing accurate periodic financial information in line with ScotRail’s accounting policies to their respective directorates in the form of a reporting pack with a full commentary on the financial performance each period along with initiative tracking.
* Prepare data and information for the Business Partners to enable development of the annual budget, business plan and other statistical / statutory information.
* Identify and analyse areas of costs to the business on a regular basis, providing options to FBPs for review.
* To support the FBP in liaising with the business to ensure any future changes are incorporated within the quarterly forecast and annual budget and business plan submissions.
* Supporting the FBP’s with all periodic reconciliations related to their respective directorates. Ensuring all are completed in a timely basis and adequate supporting information is provided.
* Ensure compliance with the current delegated authority limits is in force.
* To assist the Finance Business Partners with analysis and maintenance of financial models.
* Building financial and commercial awareness of non-finance staff within the business.
* Link effectively with the Financial Accounting function to ensure the source information used for financial business partnering is robust and based on accurate and timely information and to enhance BI information.
* To assist the Senior Finance Business Partner with any ad hoc requests or project work.
* Any other duties reasonably requested which are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post.
THE PERSON:
What You Bring…
Knowledge:
* 2 years' experience within a finance or strategy role
* Strong Excel and data analysis skills combined with a clear understanding of how this should be applied for the benefit of the organisation
* Able to take a strategic view and create solutions that are congruent with the company strategy
* A high level of competence in budget management, planning, forecasting and risk identification combined with excellent problem-solving skills
* The ability to analyse and communicate complex financial information in a clear and understandable way
* Excellent communicator at all levels, both written and verbal
* IT literate with high level of proficiency in Microsoft Packages
* Report writing and presentation skills essential
* Able to work independently and as part of a core team
* Financial qualification or working towards
Desirable:-
* Good systems experience: Open Accounts and Cognos is preferable
* PowerBI or equivalent experience
This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday and based within the Finance Directorate.
