SUMMARY
The MPS is the integrated backbone of the clients EW training system, enabling exercise planning, equipment programming, command and control (C2), post-mission analysis, and data management. It includes the Mission Planning Database (MPD), Exercise Planning and Data Manipulation (EP/DM) tools, situational awareness (SA) capabilities, and post mission replay functionality. The MPS has been separated into its own engineering life cycle, with distinct design reviews and milestones. The MPS Engineering Lead will lead the authority’s efforts to manage this life cycle, ensuring the system is delivered on schedule by August 2027.
The Mission Planning System (MPS) Engineering Lead will oversee the engineering activities for the procurement, design, and integration of the Mission Planning System, a critical component of the training system. This role ensures the MPS is secure, safe, and fit for purpose, meeting contractual and operational requirements. The MPS supports multi-domain (EW) training objectives across air, land, maritime, and anti-ship missile defence domains.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Engineering Leadership
o Act as the engineering desk officer for the MPS, ensuring compliance with procurement rules and UK project standards.
o Supervise the contractor’s design for individual assets and the system as a whole, ensuring alignment with the broader EW training system.
* System Design and Integration
o Collaborate with the contractor’s Network Architect and CIS/Security Lead and SMEs to develop the MPS design, install the CIS network at the Main Operating Base (MOB), and complete the Security Risk Assessment (SRA).
o Ensure compatibility of the MPS with the broader EW training system, including land, maritime, air, and NASMDEF components.
* Stakeholder Engagement
o Liaise with customer staff, Communications and Information Agency, and other technical specialists to capture and validate user needs.
o Act as the primary interface on MPS between the UK authority and JEWCS.
o Engage with contractors to ensure design and implementation meet requirements.
* Technical Evaluation and Documentation
o Participate in design reviews, Integrated Test and Evaluation Acceptance (ITEA) activities, and validation of technical deliverables.
o Maintain the project Guide for Engineering Activities and Review (GEAR) documentation.
* System Security and Safety
o Serve as a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) on the Project Safety Panel.
o Ensure the MPS meets system safety and security requirements.
* Project Support
o Provide support across other areas of the project as required, including document review, formal correspondence drafting, and stakeholder management.
o Take ownership of additional project areas to ensure successful delivery.
* The MPS Engineering Lead will work closely with the wider JEWCS engineering team to ensure the successful delivery of this high-profile, multinational defence project.
* The role is anticipated to require some overseas travel.
