At the heart of everything we do is compassion – because we understand that kindness and understanding make the biggest difference of all.Whilst our care is provided free of charge, we are in fact a charity, and 90% of our income is generated by legacies, donations, fundraising and our Retail shops.In addition to our workforce across our Clinical, Retail and Business Support teams, we also rely on a dedicated team of volunteers to help us deliver our many different services to people at the most vulnerable time in their lives.Job SummaryHousekeeping Assistants are vital to the smooth running of the Hospice, playing a key role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection control throughout all areas. This includes clinical areas, offices, visitor spaces, and public facilities.The role requires compassion, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the dignity, privacy, and comfort of our patients and visitors. You will work as part of a supportive team and contribute to the calm and welcoming environment that underpins the Hospice’s ethos of care.Cleaning experience and use of Scrubbing/Buffer machines desirable, however training will be given on all machineryMain Duties and Responsibilities
* Carry out cleaning duties to a high standard, in line with Hospice procedures and infection control policies.
* Ensure all clinical and public areas are clean, hygienic, and welcoming.
* Use cleaning equipment safely and responsibly, reporting any faults or maintenance issues promptly.
* Follow colour-coding systems and cleaning schedules accurately.
* Dispose of waste appropriately, including clinical and confidential waste, following Hospice protocols.
* Replenish consumables such as soap, paper towels, toilet rolls, and hand gel.
* Work flexibly to cover different areas and adapt to the needs of the service.
* Support laundry services as required, including the handling and distribution of clean linen.
* Maintain appropriate records where needed (e.g. cleaning logs).
* Respond to urgent cleaning requests, including spillages or unforeseen situations, calmly and promptly.
* Interact politely and sensitively with patients, visitors, staff, and volunteers.
* Health, Safety and Infection Control
* Adhere to the Hospice’s Health and Safety and Infection Control policies at all times.
* Use PPE appropriately and follow procedures for the safe use of cleaning agents.
* Participate in regular training and updates in infection prevention and control.
* Report any hazards or risks promptly to the Head Housekeeper or Facilities Manager.
Training and EducationAll staff are required to complete mandatory training, much of which is delivered via our online learning platform. Therefore, a basic understanding of computers and the ability to navigate online systems is important. Full support and guidance will be provided to help you complete this training confidently.Additional training may be provided face-to-face or through on-the-job shadowing, depending on the subject. You will also be expected to attend annual updates and participate in relevant departmental or organisational development sessions.General Responsibilities
