Cover Supervisor Location: York, North Yorkshire Contract: Supply / Part-Time / Full-Time Start Date: January 2026 or sooner Salary: £115 – £130 per day Are you confident, resilient, and passionate about working with young people? This is an excellent opportunity for individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds looking to step into education. The Role As a Cover Supervisor, you will: Supervise classes during teacher absences, ensuring students remain on task with pre-planned work. Manage classroom behaviour and create a calm, productive learning environment. Support students across a range of subjects, primarily at KS3 and KS4. Follow school policies and procedures, promoting a positive learning culture. Provide support to teaching staff and contribute to the wider school community. Who Can Apply? We welcome applicants from a variety of sectors and experiences, including: Support workers & care assistants – strong behaviour management, empathy, and communication Sports coaches & youth workers – experience engaging groups and delivering structured sessions Teaching assistants – knowledge of school routines and student support Graduates (any subject) – especially those considering a career in teaching Ex-armed forces or police personnel – confident leadership and problem-solving Customer service, hospitality, or retail staff – transferable people skills, adaptability, and resilience Skills & Qualifications Beneficial to the Role A degree or Level 3 qualification (advantageous but not essential) Experience working with young people (in any setting) Strong communication and organisation skills The ability to lead a classroom with confidence Patience, resilience, and a positive approach An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or willingness to apply) Two references covering the last two years Why Work with GSL Education?
