Job Overview

Exciting Opportunity: Band 8a Lead Clinical Pharmacist working in Mental Health Services.

Location: Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) pharmacy building in the grounds of Glenfield Hospital

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM 4:30 PM or 9:30 AM 5:30 PM (On-call duties as required)

We are delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Band 8a Lead Clinical Pharmacist to join our dynamic and supportive Hospital Pharmacy team at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT).

Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities)

As a Lead Pharmacist, the post holder will provide strategic, professional, and clinical leadership within the pharmacy service, ensuring delivery of a safe, effective, and patient-centred pharmacy service across the Trust. They will be responsible for service development, governance, and workforce leadership, while maintaining a visible clinical presence to support high standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities include:

a) Leadership and Service Development:

* Provide professional leadership and act as a role model for pharmacy staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical and professional practice.
* Lead on the planning, development, and evaluation of pharmacy services to support Trust priorities, national policy, and regulatory requirements.
* Drive innovation and improvement in medicines optimisation, safety, and governance in their area.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, working groups, and governance as the lead pharmacy representative.

b) Clinical Oversight:

* Ensure delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused pharmacy service across wards and clinical areas.
* Provide expert advice on complex medicines-related issues to clinicians, managers, and other healthcare professionals.
* Lead on the implementation of medicines safety initiatives, formulary management, and compliance with national guidance.
* Maintain a clinical role to support service visibility, staff engagement, and high standards of patient care.

c) Workforce Leadership:

* Line-manage, mentor, and develop pharmacy staff, ensuring appropriate training, professional development, and succession planning.
* Foster a positive culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the pharmacy team.
* Allocate and prioritise resources effectively to meet service demands and operational targets.

d) Governance, Quality, and Risk Management:

* Ensure pharmacy services comply with legislation, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
* Lead on medicines governance, incident investigation, and risk management.
* Monitor and evaluate pharmacy performance against key performance indicators, implementing action plans where necessary.

e) Collaborative Working and Continuity of Care:

* Work closely with clinical teams, and external healthcare providers to ensure seamless medicines management across care pathways.
* Champion safe and timely discharge processes, ensuring effective communication and continuity of care for patients moving between settings.
* Promote patient-centred care by supporting shared decision-making and providing expert medicines information and counselling where appropriate.
