Senior Vehicle Mechanical Design Engineer – Warwick (Hybrid) – £60,000
VIQU is partnering with a well-established engineering organisation in the specialist vehicle sector to recruit a Senior Vehicle Mechanical Design Engineer. This is a key position offering technical ownership of complex mechanical and chassis systems from concept through to production and in-service support, within a collaborative hybrid working environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and vehicle chassis systems from concept through to production release
* Produce and approve high-quality 3D models, assemblies, 2D drawings, and BOMs in accordance with BS8888 and internal standards
* Take technical ownership of designs, ensuring performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets are achieved
* Perform engineering analysis including structural integrity, fatigue, and material selection to validate design solutions
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers where required
* Work closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to ensure efficient product introduction and production readiness
* Lead root cause investigations into field and production issues, implementing corrective and preventative actions
* Drive engineering change management processes, ensuring design integrity and traceability
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across design and engineering processes
* Support supplier engagement, design reviews, and technical decision-making
Key Requirements
* HNC/HND, Apprenticeship, or Degree (BEng/MEng preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
* Strong mechanical design experience within specialist vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, yellow goods, or similar engineered products
* Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals including structures, stress, fatigue, and material selection
* Experience using 3D CAD software (Solid Edge preferred, SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent acceptable)
* Proven ability to produce and approve detailed engineering drawings and BOMs
* Good understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, fabrication, and pressed components
* Experience working within engineering change management and product lifecycle processes
* Strong problem-solving ability with a practical engineering mindset
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team
