Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Lead Accountant located in Wakefield. This is a key role within the finance function, responsible for day-to-day accounting tasks, financial reporting and supporting strategic decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and report monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet) to the Finance Director
* Perform monthly reconciliations of liability accounts, prepayments, and accruals
* Conduct sector-based financial analysis to support business insights
* Weekly bank reconciliations and authorisation of payments
* Maintain the fixed asset register and post monthly depreciation journals
* Oversee payroll inputs, including new starters, leavers, and P11Ds
* Manage company pension scheme administration
* Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns, with knowledge of VAT in renewables and construction
* Administer Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) processes, including subcontractor verification, invoice processing, and monthly returns
* Conduct monthly credit checks on new and existing customers
* Manage purchase ledger: invoice processing, supplier statement reconciliation, and month-end payment preparation
* Support Contracts Management with project-level P&L reporting
* Proven experience in month-end reporting and financial analysis
* Strong leadership and team coordination skills
* Excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking
* Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
* Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
* Proficient in Sage 50 and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
* Experience in the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors
* Familiarity with CIS, VAT in renewables, and project-based accounting
* Exposure to financial systems implementation or process improvement initiatives
