Occupational Therapist - Learning Disability Service

There is a rare and exciting vacancy for a part time (33.75 hours) Occupational Therapist (Band 6) to join the Community Learning Disability Team within North and West Hampshire. We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the established OT Team who will work alongside a dynamic and friendly multi-disciplinary team providing health services to adults with a learning disability.

It is also possible to offer this role as full time hours to an experienced band 5 Occupational Therapist (min 3 years experience). Please state in your application whether you are interested in the role at Band 6 part time or Band 5 full time.

We are looking for someone who is familiar with MDT working and has experience of working with people with learning disabilities. They must have the ability to learn and develop skills within this varied and interesting role. It is essential to be a good communicator, highly motivated, reliable and be able to work flexibly.


Main duties of the job

We can offer:-

* A well-developed appraisal and supervision structure with access to personal training budget.
* The opportunity to develop and engage in close working relationships with other professionals within the MDT and other partner agencies.
* Interesting and varied caseload and opportunity to practice OT in a holistic way.

You will need to be a British Driving License holder with use of your own car and business insurance as you will be working in the community, visiting clients in their homes and day services.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy.
* State registration with COT/ HCPC.
* Current British Driving Licence and use of a car for business.
* Experience in applying standardised assessments e.g. OCAIRS/ AMPS/ SI assessment.


Experience

* Application of the OT process in practice.
* Experience of supervising Band 4/5 staff and students.
* Use of relevant occupational outcome measures.
* Ability to follow Care Planning Approach (CPA).
* Ability to apply knowledge of current legislation relevant to learning disabilities.
* Knowledge and ability to apply OT process to community learning disabilities.
* Ability to apply OT models to learning disability practice.
* Ability to apply Mental Capacity Act and make best interest decisions relating to consent to Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention.
* Demonstrate knowledge of Safeguarding processes.Demonstrate an understanding of own role in the Quality & Governance of own practice, and the practice of the team.
* Ability to carry out risk assessments and develop risk management plans.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to liaise effectively with other agencies including families, carers, education, health professionals etc. to deliver interventions in a holistic way.
* Good personal organisational skills.
* Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
* Word processing and internet skills.
* Training and presentation skills.
* Application of a clear value base of status and respect, social inclusion, community presence, independence, rights and choice.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Sensitive and flexible approach to service users and carers.
* Commitment to lifelong learning.
* Experience of learning disabilities or working in the community.
* Ability to use Electronic Patient Records.
* Ability to use augmentative communication methods.
