We are looking for a band 5 nurse to join our friendly team on the paediatric unit at the West Suffolk Hospital. Rainbow Children’s unit is a general Paediatric Ward & Children’s Assessment Unit, caring for both medical and surgical patients aged 0-16 years. You will be assisting in the delivery of family-centred, evidence-based practice from admission to discharge and should be caring, compassionate, forward-thinking and have a positive attitude towards providing the highest quality care to our children and families.

Responsibilities
* Ensures the maintenance of accurate clinical observations of patients’ condition and passing on of all relevant results to appropriate medical staff.
* Ensures that skilled, evidence-based care and treatment is given to children and their families, and, in accordance with their care needs.
* Ensures safe practice to minimise the risk of infection to patients and staff.
* Recognises the diverse needs of children and their families.
* Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions and adjusts care and treatment to take account of any changing needs of the child.
* Monitor effectiveness of treatment and care with view to safe transfers to wards or high dependence areas where and when necessary
* Carries out the rapid assessment of children, identifying nursing problems and needs in conjunction with the patient and families where possible, and with appropriate members of the inter-professional team.
* Assesses risks to children and families that need to be managed in relation to their health and wellbeing within the scope of nursing practice.
* Able to recognise vulnerable children and adults and to respond in accordance with Trust policy.
* Promotes effective communication between children, relatives and staff, and supports bereaved and distressed children, relatives and staff.
* Ensures that when children or families raise concerns they are identified and addressed where possible, and that informal complaints are dealt with appropriately.
Qualifications and requirements
* Band 5 nurse with eligible registration (or Newly Qualified Children’s Nurse) seeking to start a Paediatric Nursing Career.
* Willingness to work across Rainbow Children’s unit areas (general Paediatric Ward and Children’s Assessment Unit).
* Commitment to family-centred, evidence-based practice and high-quality care for children and families.
