Sustaining Engineering Leader
The Sustaining Engineering Leader leads a team of product support engineers to meet the technical needs of Dowty's customers both externally and internally. Working with the wider engineering team and the entire business, the team maintains the ongoing airworthiness of our in-service propeller systems and drives improvements and investigations.
1. Leadership and Development: Support and develop the product support engineering team, including recruitment, induction, career development, appraisals, training, coaching, and mentoring for continuous improvement.
2. Technical Leadership: Drive technical excellence within the team, engage in technical activities as required, and promote process improvements.
3. Financial Oversight: Manage budgeting, track spend, approve labour vouchering, travel expenses, project spend, and other business processes.
4. Resource Forecasting: Support business processes with engineering resource forecasting and demand planning.
5. Interfacing: Communicate with production and maintenance organizations to ensure project and action fulfillment.
6. Lean Principles: Uphold and develop Lean principles, approaches, standard work, and daily management; lead Lean activities and events.
7. Communication and Reporting: Conduct sustainment platform reviews covering status, investigations, activities, issues, risks, and opportunities.
8. Leadership Participation: Participate in the engineering leadership team to improve effectiveness and develop processes supporting platform sustainment and business activities.
This role requires significant experience in Engineering/Technology & Functional Management, with knowledge comparable to a Master's degree or equivalent experience. Experience in aerospace product support, ideally within a UKCAA/EASA Part-21 Design Organisation, is preferred. A technical background in complex systems, customer relationship management, project management skills, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and excellent communication skills are essential. The ability to analyze and resolve problems with a structured approach is also required.
