We are looking for a hard working, dynamic and caring individual to join our friendly and patient focused team.

We currently have a vacancy for a higher level Imaging Department Assistant based within the busy CT department at Royal Preston Hospital. You will be required to work alongside all members of the multi-disciplinary CT team and will be expected to demonstrate flexibility in your attitude to work.


The CT department at Royal Preston Hospital has 4 CT scanners; one in the ED CT department, 2 in the Neuro CT department and a mobile CT scanner based at Preston Healthport. The role will involve rotation through all the scanners. You will be required to assist the Radiographers or Radiologists with all CT procedures and will be expected to demonstrate excellent patient care and communication skills.

NVQ 3 in a health related subject is a requirement of the post, however we would be happy to offer the job as a training post, subject to completion of the Level 3 apprenticeship in Diagnostic Imaging within 18 months of starting in post.

Main duties of the job

Within the CT department we undertake a variety of specialist scans including trauma, oncology, neuro, cardiac and virtual colonography.

Your role will involve supporting the patient throughout their CT journey. This includes preparing the patients prior to their scan, cannulating the patient and preparing the contrast media, monitoring the patient during specialist procedures, providing emotional support and providing any necessary aftercare.

You will also assist the Radiographer and the multidisciplinary team to manage and improve the workflow to provide an excellent CT service.

Duties will also include performing administrative tasks and assisting with stock ordering and daily cleaning of the department.

Venepuncture and cannulation training will be provided to the successful candidate if required.

Duties include but are not limited to:

1. Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.
2. Undertake duties relevant to the clinical area following completion of competencies.
3. Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
4. Assist in maintaining standards of care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
5. Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean and productive environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
6. Maintain and develop own competence.
7. Process information according to local and national requirements.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

8. Previous experience working in an acute healthcare setting
9. Able to demonstrate Health & Safety awareness
10. Aware of the concept of confidentiality
11. Demonstrates the understanding of a band 3 IDA role

Desirable criteria

12. Evidence of working and Band 3 in a caring environment.

14. Level 2 Functional Literacy & Level 2 Numeracy skills OR GCSE in English and Maths - Grade C/4 or above
