Role Overview

Due to organic growth and expansion from ongoing acquisitions, we are seeking a Private Client Tax Manager to join our Private Client team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge and be able to provide strategic commercial advice on tax planning and risk management. You will play a key role in managing client relationships, assisting and leading projects, and contributing to the growth of our private client tax practice. The role entails managing day‑to‑day aspects of a portfolio of private clients, with an emphasis on compliance and opportunities to support tax advisory work. We are flexible on location across Newcastle, Durham, and Hexham offices.


Key Responsibilities

Management:
* Act as principal manager contact for a portfolio of clients within the Private Client Team, taking responsibility for the review process of all compliance work relating to the client’s affairs.
* Liaise with the Senior Management Team regarding portfolio management and development of tax team members, including productivity, recovery and billing targets and training.
* Support development of team members at all levels, including mentoring, training, performance reviews, and efficiency improvements.
* Provide timely feedback on work and performance matters.
* Develop new client relationships and assist in business development opportunities.
* Be competent in all levels of personal tax and identify planning opportunities for clients, coordinating with other teams and departments.
Tax Technical:
* Provide ad‑hoc advisory services to clients, focusing on HNWI and OMB clients: residence and domicile matters, trust structuring, international tax planning, estate planning, wealth management strategies, and family business advisory.
Client Management:
* Support the Senior Management Team in developing and maintaining strong client relationships as trusted advisors, coordinating and delivering required services.
Project Management:
* Manage the successful delivery of all aspects of the personal tax compliance function for a portfolio of clients.
Team Leadership:
* Mentor and develop the Private Client Tax team, ensuring high standards of performance and professional growth.
Risk Management:
* Identify and mitigate tax risks for clients, ensuring all work is technically and ethically compliant with professional standards.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

* Proven experience in a private client tax managerial role, ideally within a top 30 professional services firm.
* Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent).
* Deep understanding of all tax law and regulations in relation to personal tax compliance, with a track record in client advisory work.
* Strong experience in managing client relationships and leading projects.
* Commercial mindedness and ability to manage the financial aspects of client service, such as fee quotes, budgets, recoveries and billing.
* Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a strategic mindset.
* Strong leadership skills, with experience in team development and mentoring.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
* Proficiency in tax software (CCH) and tax research platforms (e.g., Croner‑i/LexisNexis).
