Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. The ECU will lead the strategic approach to financial investigations and ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
Responsibilities
* Lead the ECU, managing two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; provide strong leadership, motivation, and performance management.
* Be the strategic lead for how financial investigations are conducted and how POCA obligations are fulfilled; drive continual improvement in processes and work methods.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC); influence at senior levels to align EA priorities with external enforcement efforts.
* Support the wider organisation in improving working practices and understanding POCA; share lessons learned and contribute to changes in technical documentation; advise other enforcement officers nationwide.
* Work with teams focused on Asset Denial and Money Laundering investigations, comprising Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts; operate as a nationally dispersed unit.
Experience/skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team; strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in:
o Working in the law enforcement sector with knowledge of the National Intelligence Model
o Effective communication including feedback delivery, performance management, and relationship-building with external stakeholders
o Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
o Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
o Developing and enhancing team and individual capability

This is a hybrid working role and you’ll work flexibly from home and your nearest office. There will be a requirement for travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is a central part of our work; you may be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident, which may attract an additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you.
