East Sussex County Council is establishing a new specialist service to support individuals who are rough sleeping or experiencing domestic abuse. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Practice Manager (Registered Social Worker) to lead this innovative, trauma‑informed service and make a meaningful difference to some of the county’s most vulnerable residents.
Responsibilities
* Lead, develop, and inspire a multidisciplinary team supporting adults experiencing rough sleeping, domestic abuse, or both.
* Ensure safe, effective, and timely responses aligned with the Care Act 2014, Domestic Abuse Act 2021, safeguarding duties, and homelessness legislation.
* Provide regular professional supervision, performance management, and support to staff.
* Oversee complex casework, risk management, and safeguarding decision‑making.
* Work collaboratively with housing services, health partners, police, voluntary and community sector organisations.
* Drive service development, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
* Ensure practice is person‑centred, strengths‑based, and trauma‑informed.
* Monitor performance outcomes and contribute to service reporting, planning, and commissioning activity.
Candidate Requirements
* Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW or equivalent).
* Current registration with Social Work England.
* Significant post‑qualifying experience working with adults, including safeguarding and complex risk.
* Proven experience of line management or supervisory responsibility.
* Strong knowledge of homelessness, rough sleeping, domestic abuse and associated legislation.
* Confidence working within multi‑agency environments.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills.
* Desirable: experience managing services for people with multiple compound needs, familiarity with countywide or multi‑site service delivery and knowledge of commissioning or service redesign.

Additional Information
Applicants will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services. Candidates who have lived or worked abroad must provide an overseas police check. The starting salary will be pro rata if the role is part‑time or term‑time.
