Senior Radiopharmacy Technician

We are seeking an experienced Senior Radiopharmacy Technician to play a key leadership role within our radiopharmacy service. The post holder will bring extensive technical expertise in radiopharmacy and/or aseptic services, with a strong working knowledge of GMP, radiation protection, and regulatory requirements. The role involves leading and coordinating day‑to‑day operations, ensuring safe, timely and compliant preparation of radiopharmaceuticals, developing, validating and implementing protocols, supporting quality and audit activities, and providing supervision, training and mentorship to junior staff.
Main duties
* Prepare, produce and supply radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic use in compliance with GMP, IRR/IR(ME)R, MHRA requirements and local procedures.
* Perform advanced hands‑on technical support, aseptic preparation, dispensing, generator elution, dose preparation, labelling and documentation in a cleanroom/aseptic environment.
* Conduct production in-process checks, complete production, environmental and batch records and support environmental monitoring.
* Escalate non‑routine issues, record deviations, incidents and near misses, and participate in audits, inspections and regulatory visits.
* Provide technical guidance and supervision to junior staff, trainees and less experienced technicians.
* Support the implementation of SOPs, protocols, validation, commissioning and change control activities.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or Scientific Manufacturing Technician Level 3
* Registered with the GPA or The Science Council for Registered Science Technician
* KCL Radiopharmacy or equivalent course
* Post‑graduate MSc/Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance or equivalent experience
Experience
* Substantial experience in a Radiopharmacy or Aseptic S10 / MS special licence unit
* Experience in education and training within GMP and radiopharmacy environment
* Experience validating equipment and processes
* Experience in project management and service development
Knowledge
* Good practical knowledge of GMP, IRR17 and IR(ME)R 2017 regulations
* Good practical knowledge of GCP regulation
* Good practical knowledge of radiopharmacy preparation
Skills
* Logical thinking and problem solving
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise appropriately
* Teamwork skills
* Strong IT skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint; quick learner and proactive approach
