Front of House Shift Manager
Reporting to: Front of House Manager
Location: Cowes Clubhouse, Cowes, Isle of Wight
Contract Type: 30 hours per week (service shifts with some seasonal variation)
Salary: £13.46 - £15.38 per hour (FTE £28k - £32k)
Holiday: 28 days per annum including bank holidays
The Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) is a private members’ club and a leading authority in international and domestic offshore yacht racing, with Clubhouses in central London and Cowes.
Steeped in history, the RORC Cowes Clubhouse is a magnificent building set on Castle Hill, recently refurbished, enjoying outstanding views of the Solent. The Clubhouse offers 13 bedrooms, dining throughout the day, and hosts a busy programme of yacht racing events, member functions, and private hire events.
Job Purpose and Scope
The FOH Shift Manager supports the Front of House Manager in the effective day-to-day operation of the Cowes Clubhouse, ensuring smooth service delivery across food, beverage, accommodation, and events.
This is a hands-on operational role, acting as the senior point of contact during assigned shifts and taking responsibility for the supervision of Front of House staff, service standards, and guest experience. The FOH Shift Manager ensures that members and guests receive consistently high levels of service while maintaining a calm, professional presence during busy service periods.
During peak season (May–October), the role is predominantly service-led, including evenings and weekends. Outside of peak season, the focus shifts towards planning support, training, administration, and maintaining service standards.
The role works closely with the Front of House Manager, Cowes Finance Officer, Clubhouse Administrator, and kitchen team.
Person Specification
* Professional presentation with a calm, proactive, and solution-focused approach.
* Proven experience in a front-of-house supervisory or duty management role within hospitality, hotels, or private members’ clubs.
* Confident leading service on the floor and taking responsibility during busy operational shifts.
* Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to engage positively with members, guests, and colleagues.
* Good understanding of food and beverage service standards and dining etiquette.
* Basic financial awareness, including stock control and cost-conscious service delivery.
* Competent using IT systems, reservations, or event management software.
* Flexible and adaptable, with availability to work evenings, weekends, and seasonal peak periods.
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and delegate effectively during service.
