About the role
We are recruiting Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs) to work within all areas of the Derbyshire Healthcare Pharmacy department. Pharmacy Technicians have an important role within the hospital, managing all aspects of medicines. This is an excellent opportunity to train for a career as a Registered Pharmacy Technician by studying for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians whilst working on an Apprenticeship program. Upon completion, you will be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Key responsibilities
* Distribute individual patient medicines, including controlled drugs, extemporaneous preparations, and clinical trial medicines, ensuring legal and ethical adherence.
* Complete Accredited Checking of medicines logs and assessments.
* Participate in the receipt, ordering, and distribution of medicines to wards and teams.
* Conduct medicine reconciliation at ward level, checking patient-owned medicines and ensuring supply adequacy.
* Develop knowledge and effectively counsel patients on their medication, providing medicine advice.
* Order repeat inpatient and stock medicines.
* Complete pharmacy governance audits.
* Provide excellent customer care to patients, healthcare workers, and the public, maintaining confidentiality.
* Accurately dispense, assemble, and issue patient medication including controlled drugs, compliance aids, and extemporaneous products.
* Undertake regular accuracy checking training sessions and dispensing of medicines.
* Accurately assemble, pack, and distribute pharmacy items, including cytotoxic and COSHH items, to wards and teams.
* Accurately receive ordered items according to standard operating procedures and procure pharmaceutical medicines from approved suppliers.
* Participate in relevant audits to meet CQC requirements and contribute to service development and improvement.
* Apply principles of information governance and ensure patient confidentiality.
* Take accountability for own work and demonstrate competency in the Pharmacy Technician Advanced Integrated Apprenticeship over 2 years.
Qualifications and requirements
* Minimum of 4 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade 4/C or above, including English, Maths, and a Science subject.
* Willingness and ability to follow an academic and practical training course and complete independent study.
* Excellent communication skills, both face-to-face and via telephone or electronic methods.
