Salary: £28,400- £31,000 per annum, plus 8% pension contribution Duration: Fixed term post until 31st July 2029 Hours: 37 hours per week (1FTE) Job Purpose To develop and deliver volunteer engagement activities as part of Butterfly Conservation’s PeacePlus Nature project, throughout the project area. To recruit and support new volunteers and develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence of existing volunteers, with the aim of establishing semi-independent groups where required. Develop partnerships with local communities in and around the project area, to aid Butterfly Conservation’s work to protect target Lepidoptera species and limestone grassland habitat. To support the delivery, monitoring, and reporting of volunteer engagement, with a focus to connect people to nature and to reach people from a broader range of backgrounds. Main Responsibilities Run events and activities with local communities with the aim of engaging new audiences, widening participation and recruiting new volunteers to support the PeacePlus Nature project, using Butterfly Conservation’s systems and processes. To engage and form effective partnerships with key stakeholders, statutory agencies, and volunteers in and around the project area. Working with Butterfly Conservation’s PeacePlus Nature project staff, as well as other staff and volunteers at Butterfly Conservation, identify the key roles required to support the legacy of the project and recruit new volunteers accordingly. Working with staff and local volunteers, provide training and support in habitat management and species monitoring techniques, with the aim of developing semi-independent groups of volunteers in the project area, to ensure the legacy of the project. Working with the PeacePlus Nature team, coordinate the delivery of workshops and events for partners, volunteers, and community groups with a focus on the understanding of landscape-scale conservation for priority Lepidoptera species and connecting people to nature. Disseminate the impact of BC’s work including running online workshops, giving presentations, giving media interviews, preparing reports, and posting social media. Undertake day to day management of the engagement project work, supporting reporting and budget claims, working with the PeacePlus Nature Project Manager and Butterfly Conservation staff as required to ensure project compliance. Responsible for the day-to-day management of volunteers on the project. Seek to promote the involvement of young people, which currently form an under-served group. General Working closely with the PeacePlus Nature project team and Butterfly Conservation staff, ensure effective health and safety procedures are in place for all participants, including Butterfly Conservation staff, the public, volunteers and project partners. Ensure effective communication and collaboration across the Nature Recovery Directorate and support in the delivery, monitoring, and reporting of BC’s strategic aims, relating to priority landscapes, species, and BC’s ‘Nature Recovery Plan’. Work closely with the Senior Engagement Officer (Northern Ireland) and the Head of Volunteering to ensure communication and collaboration across the Engagement & Volunteering team. Support the delivery, monitoring, and reporting of BC’s Engagement & Volunteering strategic aims, with a focus on our work to connect people to nature and to reach people from a broader range of backgrounds.
