Description
We are seeking a Small Claims Handler to manage a portfolio of litigated small claims track files under supervision. This role involves handling quantum and liability cases efficiently, using effective negotiation techniques to settle claims appropriately.
Key Accountabilities
1. Manage a caseload of Small Claims Track cases, ensuring court deadlines are met through effective planning.
2. Achieve performance targets and maintain quality standards.
3. Analyze evidence to develop case strategies on liability and quantum.
4. Communicate with clients, defendants, insurers, and solicitors to negotiate settlements.
5. Prepare witnesses, assess evidence, and draft statements.
6. Draft court documents and meet all court deadlines.
7. Instruct and liaise with Counsel.
8. Guide defendants through litigation and set expectations.
9. Maintain case management and billing records accurately.
10. Delegate tasks appropriately within the team.
11. Handle correspondence and calls within service level agreements.
12. Update reports with new evidence.
13. Adhere to client guidelines and ISO 9001 standards.
14. Ensure compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations.
Working Hours
35 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. The primary location is The Parklands, Bolton, with a hybrid working model (1 day in-office, 4 days remote).
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
* Legal experience through education or practice.
* File handling experience in law or insurance.
* Understanding of highway code and road traffic laws.
* Ability to prioritize and plan workloads.
* Efficiency in process-driven environments.
* Positive attitude and willingness to develop.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
* Sensitivity and tact when needed.
* Teamwork skills.
* Basic knowledge of Court Practice Rules.
