Mechanical Design Engineer – Bespoke Agricultural Machinery Location: Cheshire (on-site) Salary: Up to £45,000 - £60,000 Bonus We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist manufacturer of bespoke machinery for the agricultural sector. This is a hands-on design role where you’ll take projects from concept through to manufacture, working as part of a small, highly skilled engineering team. You’ll be responsible for designing innovative mechanical systems and assemblies, creating detailed manufacturing drawings, and supporting build and test phases on site. Key Responsibilities * End-to-end mechanical design of bespoke machinery, assemblies, and fabricated components * 3D CAD modelling and 2D manufacturing drawings * Liaising with production, suppliers, and workshop teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective * Supporting prototype builds, testing, and design improvements * Managing design changes, BOMs, and documentation Skills & Experience * Proven experience designing special purpose machinery, automated systems, or mechanical assemblies * Proficient in SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or Siemens NX * Strong understanding of fabrication, machining, and assembly processes * Comfortable producing engineering drawings to BS8888 or equivalent standards * Good knowledge of hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems is advantageous * A practical mindset — able to work closely with the shop floor and get hands-on when needed The Opportunity * Salary up to £60,000 bonus * Real influence in design direction and product innovation * On-site, collaborative role with full involvement from concept to delivery * Long-term stability and variety designing machinery used by agricultural businesses across the UK and overseas If you’re a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys seeing your designs built, tested, and in use, and you have experience in SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or Siemens NX, we’d love to hear from you.
