Kernow Health CIC is looking to welcome a dynamic and dedicated HR Business Partner to our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward‑thinking, innovative healthcare organisation based in Cornwall. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting our Integrated Urgent Care Service (IUCS) while also contributing to the broader organisation.
As HR Business Partner, you will deliver comprehensive, operational HR support, acting as a trusted partner to managers and a visible presence for staff.
Key responsibilities
* Personally manage a wide range of employee relations cases, including sickness absence, grievances, disciplinaries, performance and capability matters.
* Lead workforce welfare activity, including Occupational Health referrals, risk assessments and wellbeing support.
* Conduct investigations and formal HR meetings, working flexibly to meet staff during their scheduled shifts, including evenings and weekends when required.
* Support and coach managers to build confidence in managing people issues effectively and consistently.
* Work closely with the Head of HR to translate people strategy into practical, operational delivery.
* Contribute to HR projects and service improvements that strengthen workforce practice and organisational outcomes.
* Provide expert HR advice and guidance to managers and staff on HR matters, supporting managers in dealing with complex casework, performance, attendance, and employee relations issues.
* Build strong, credible working relationships with managers and staff at all levels, acting as a trusted, impartial advisor on workplace issues and people matters.
* Support the HR department in implementing programs to improve the employee experience.
* Collaborate with other HR areas to ensure processes are efficient and aligned between business areas.
* Help identify and plan appropriate development interventions for teams.
* Maintain good relations with trade unions and lead negotiations where necessary.
* Support project work and deliver key HR team deliverables, including recruitment campaigns and wellbeing initiatives.
* Provide administrative support to the Head of HR, including managing agendas/minutes and collating reports.
* Maintain flexibility to work outside standard office hours, conducting formal HR meetings with staff working unsocial hours.
* Ensure grievance, disciplinary, capability and other formal employee relations meetings can be conducted during staff shifts where appropriate.
Qualifications and experience
* CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent professional HR qualification), or demonstrable equivalent operational HR experience in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
* Proven experience delivering hands‑on HR support with a strong focus on employee relations.
* Experience working closely with frontline managers and staff, providing practical, solution‑focused HR advice in real time.
* Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and its practical application.
* Experience supporting services operating extended hours or 24/7.
* Experience working within healthcare, urgent care, call centre, or similarly high‑volume, regulated service environments.
* Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
* High emotional intelligence and sound professional judgment.
* A proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
* Flexibility to support staff working unsocial hours when required.
