The UK finance team is primarily responsible for the financial reporting (US GAAP and local/statutory) of Cabot Carbon Ltd (Tolling manufacturer), Cabot Performance Material UK (Sales & Marketing) and 6 other UK holding companies (Cabot GB Ltd, Cabot UK Ltd, Cabot Plastics Ltd, Cabot Activated Carbon UK Ltd, Cabot Activated Carbon Holding UK Ltd and Cabot UK Holding III). The Senior Accountant will provide support to the UK Finance Manager with day-to-day duties including but not being limited to: Ensuring all finance, tax and accounting records are compliant with both UK and US GAAP; Statutory Accounting; Tax returns for Group companies; VAT accounting; Budgeting and forecasting; Cost saving initiatives; and Sarbanes Oxley (“SOX”), internal control, company internal and external audits. On occasion and as required the Senior Accountant shall assist the UK Finance Manager in supporting business unit leaders and liaising with external bodies (such as; HMRC / The Office of National Statistics) or consultants (such as; auditors and tax advisors). Day to day responsibility for the accounting and financial activities in respect of Cabot Performance Material UK and the holding companies. Liaising with the shared service centre functions as required to ensure that all General Ledger, Payables, Treasury, purchasing transactions are correctly recorded, compliant and in accordance with Cabot’s global standards and generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP). Support the UK Finance Manager on accounting and financial analysis activities for Cabot Carbon Ltd Reporting to the UK Finance Manager lead the process for the following areas: - • UK entities Statutory Accounts preparation • UK Group CT reporting, PAYE and associated payroll reporting, VAT submissions Assist the UK Finance Manager in maintaining an effective control environment including but not limited to • Assisting with statutory and internal audits in preparing supporting documentation, liaising with key external stakeholders, along with site / company personnel as needed. • Review internal control (SOX) matrix annually in conjunction with the UK Finance Manager • Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations as required (i.e. monthly, quarterly, annually) • Analysis of any financial issues concerning the closing process and/or accuracy of the data recorded Production of the management reviews for Cabot Performance Material UK and the holding companies • Complete analytical reviews of revenue, cost of sales expenses for reasonableness. • Perform actual to budget / forecast analysis of other income statement accounts Annual budget planning and forecasting cycles • Lead the budget and forecasting cycle in respect of. Cabot Performance Material UK and the holding companies • Assist with the budget and forecasting cycle of Cabot Carbon Ltd To deputise for the UK Finance Manager as necessary • Ability to make decisions and take initiative in the absence of perfect information. • Ability to build trust and gain support of personnel across organization. • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively across all departments (finance and non-finance) • Ability to respond to issues quickly and effectively • Accuracy and attention to detail but also ability to see the ‘big picture’ • Advanced computer skills in financial applications / Microsoft Office & ERP systems (Oracle JDE preferred) • Strong analytical skills Education/Experience • University degree in Accounting/Finance. Professional Accounting Qualification preferred ACCA/CIMA/ ICAEW • Proficient knowledge of UK GAAP • Knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) is a plus • Knowledge of UK Tax group accounting is a plus • 5 years’ experience in financial and tax accounting, preferably in an international manufacturing environment. • Statutory Account preparation within a UK group manufacturing environment desirable
