About the Role
As a Team Leader you will direct, organise and motivate a high‑performing team responsible for inspecting, faulting, maintaining and renewing the track network (Permanent Way). You will establish appropriate safety arrangements, enforce safe work systems for staff and contractors and ensure all work meets the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Direct and inspire a team involved in inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal activities.
* Establish appropriate safety arrangements and enforce safe work systems for staff and contractors.
* Manage quality control, competence of staff and compliance of assets, vehicles, plant, tools and materials.
* Compile reports and documentation on progress, safety and quality.
Essential Criteria
* Experience of organising and controlling safe and efficient delivery of track maintenance work.
* Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing.
* Knowledge of discipline‑specific maintenance, inspection, faulting and renewal techniques.
* Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions.
* A clear and inspirational leader with a strong sense of direction.
Desirable Criteria
* Holding or working towards an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
* Willingness and ability to drive vehicles as required.
Other Requirements
* Day, night and weekend working.
* Safety‑critical role subject to drug and alcohol testing and medical assessment.

Salary and Grade
Grade: Maintenance Grade Terms and Conditions (Standard Maintenance Contract)
Salary: £43,997 per annum
