We have a fantastic new job opportunity for aYouth Support Worker / A&E Crisis & Early Intervention Youth Navigator who is empathetic, has experience working with young people and has the ability to improve the outcomes for them.
This is an innovative programme run by a healthcare charity and is carried out in partnership with NHS Grampian, funded by the CORRA Foundation.
Working as the Youth Support Worker / A&E Crisis & Early Intervention Youth Navigator you will join this programme that aims to improve the wellbeing and engagement life chances for those who accept support.
As the Youth Support Worker / A&E Crisis & Early Intervention Youth Navigator you will provide a hospital and community-based intervention to support adolescents who present as patients, often with complex social needs and in times of crisis.
The organisation is looking for an exceptional Youth Worker with proven ability to work with vulnerable young people, and the capacity to form effective working relationships with a wide range of partners and agencies.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Youth Support Worker / A&E Crisis & Early Intervention Youth Navigator include:
1. Form strong, professional relationships with the wider clinical team including nurses and support workers, doctors, and ambulance crews, working closely with them to identify patients who may benefit from the service
2. Engage with willing patients within the emergency department or ward, build connections and discuss future support options
3. Support identified patients through community outreach, build strong therapeutic relationships
4. Connect service users to existing community support
5. Manage a case load and daily activities
6. Manage administrative systems and functions, ensuring service user forms, databases, contact files and emails are kept updated
7. Provide ‘buddying’ or informal mentoring to new members of staff
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
8. Proven track record of working with young people and ability to build positive relationships with them
9. Experience of working with individuals impacted by violence, trauma or tragedy
10. Can work without direct supervision
11. Knowledge of the causes and effects of social exclusion / isolation / inequality
12. A good understanding of the physical, social and emotional development needs of young people
13. A sound understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues
14. Knowledge of addictions and mental health issues, and how these impact on young people
15. An understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
