Applicants are invited for the post of ST1-2 Trust Grade (SHO Level) working at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), Queen Square.
Postholders will have the opportunity to attend the same teaching and training sessions as IMTs. However, this post is not recognised for training.
This advert is primarily for 12-month posts beginning in August 2026, however we do have 1 post beginning in June 2026 for up to 8 months.
Experience As the post holder will manage the Neurology inpatients overnight without a registrar on site (NHNN only), experience in general medicine in a UK hospital is preferred.
Teaching There are daily opportunities to attend teaching. These include grand rounds, clinico-pathologic cases, bedside teaching and consultant-led tutorials, often by international experts. Two teaching sessions are protected: a weekly teaching session for MRCP PACES neurology and a weekly CMT teaching session tied to the curriculum and delivered by consultants.
Supervision All trainees will have a named educational supervisor and an electronic portfolio on which to log progress.
Main duties of the job
The Trust Grade Doctor will have primary charge of the day-to-day care of neurology patients. The position holder will clerk and perform neurological assessments on patients on admission and discharge. They will ensure accurate update of patient records liaising with full range of multi-disciplinary teams involved in patient care and ensuring discharge summaries are completed within the set time frame.
Job responsibilities
Trust Doctors rotate through weeks of inpatient ward work and time on the daycare unit. Shifts are a combination of standard hours (usually 8.30am to 5pm) and on-call shifts.

Knowledge and Qualifications
* Completion of Foundation year 2 medical training
* Basic Life Support Training
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
Experience
* Management of medical or neurology inpatients
* Clinical Audit
* Experience working in the NHS
Skills and Abilities
* IT proficiency at advanced user level (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Database, Email).
* Completion of projects, audit, quality improvement and service developments.
Communication
* Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients from a diverse range of backgrounds and with diverse clinical and social needs.
* Excellent written and oral communication with colleagues within a multidisciplinary ethos.

* Takes responsibility for own personal development plan
