Main Duties of the Job
The post-holder will use most of his/her time in clinical activities directly relating to Dermatology. The total NHS workload is 10 PAs each week and will be based at the Department of Dermatology, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, with occasional outreach clinics at other sites.
Junior medical support and training: The Dermatology services participate in the Oxford Training Rotation, with specialist training posts shared between several hospitals. At any time there are at least 6 registrars based in Oxford & Reading, each spending approximately 24 months per department.
Out‑patient clinics: The work plan normally involves PA sessions in outpatient clinic settings and supporting activity. Dermatology in Oxford sees over 48,000 patients per year, including new referrals, follow‑up consultations and clinical procedures such as laser and surgery. Clinics are staffed by a consultant with a specialist or research registrar and ST1‑2; nurse-led clinics and surgical lists are well established and consultant supervised.
Ward rounds & in‑patient cover: All in-patients are admitted on the Churchill site where possible or in the John Radcliffe Hospital.
No acute general medicine on-call duties; dermatology consultants take part in supervising the non-resident registrar on-call rota on a 1 in 13 basis. Churchill Hospital has a resident general medical hospital-at-night ST1‑2 rota shared between departments.
All consultants are expected to participate in the direction of the department’s clinical audit programme, normally carried out with the aid of the registrars.
