About the role
Balfour Beatty is currently seeking a Design Delivery Manager - Substations P&C to join their Power T&D team.
Role purpose:
Ensure that competent resources are available to deliver design for our projects.
The Design Delivery Manager is responsible for managing a discipline specific delivery team:
Providing strategy, management and leadership to the team across UK and worldwide offices.
Promote cooperation between the different teams and wider stakeholders.
Promote a proactive team culture which ensures shared learning and best practice, good communication, work across boundaries and recognition of success.
What you'll be doing
Key Accountabilities:
Discipline’s resourcing, management and people / team development, including but not limited to ensuring enough and competent staff for delivering the discipline’s current and future workload
Managing the discipline’s workload across the interface locations (UK, EDC, other) in collaboration with the local Team Leads.
The team’s productivity and performance – specifically relating to the design delivery process.
Profit and Loss across the discipline – acting to ensure that opportunities are maximised through productivity of staff across all locations.
Ensuring tender inputs produced from the discipline capture keys opportunities and risks and provide realistic pricing estimations.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for nominating the Lead Designer and any other required key roles for each project, as well as for general work allocation within their team.
Ensure a high level of teamwork and cohesion between staff is maintained at all times regardless of location.
Work in close collaboration with the discipline Chief Engineer for developing and maintaining team’s technical competencies and expertise.
Set the strategic direction for their discipline in line with department procedures and with support from the Design Senior Leadership Team.
Support Lead Designer during tender development. Responsible for ensuring the budget, programme and risks for their team’s activities for each tender are adequate and provided in a timely manner.
Track and report on progress and key issues to the Senior Leadership Team.
Ensure succession plans are in place for their own role, as well for any other key roles within the team (Principal Design Engineers, CDAE, Technical Experts, etc.).
Liaise with Project Controls team to ensure all staff relevant information is up to date and facilitate PARAM setup and implementation to support Engineering Managers where required.
Actively promote and demonstrate Group values and behaviours through day-to-day work.
Who we're looking for
Skills Required:
Degree or equivalent in Civil, Electrical or Power Engineering disciplines.
Ideally a corporate member of, or working towards corporate membership of, an Engineering Institution (e.g. ICE, IEEE, IMechE).
Previous experience in the Power industry, coupled with familiarity with NG, SSE, SPEN and DNO technical specifications.
Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being able to relate to people at all levels in an organisation and to establish and maintain respect both professionally and personally.
