An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and motivated individual who are interested in developing their skills in caring for frail elderly patients.
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust ( BHT) intends to open a sixteen bedded Winter escalation ward on the Stoke Mandeville Hospital site from November 2025 to April 2026
The ward will be part of Medicine for Older people working closely with the Frailty Assessment Unit.
A kind, compassionate and caring manner in supporting our patients, their families and our dedicated team of staff is vital to this role. You will have high standards and be able to demonstrate excellent patient care, clinical and managerial skills.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead and develop the nursing and multidisciplinary teams. You will have demonstrable experience in ward management with experience in delivering rehabilitative inpatient care. You will be an autonomous practitioner keen to develop the team further. You will develop a close working relationship with the Matron for Medicine for Older People and ward sisters/managers within the division to ensure that the Elderly Care vision is shared across the division and trust.
You will have the opportunity to continue to progress your professional development, gain specialist knowledge in the care skills in caring for the older person. Commitment to undertake ongoing in-service training and development is essential. You should be motivated, keen to learn and ready to embrace change; our commitment to you is to provide the environment for this to happen.

Person specification
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
10. Registered Nurse
11. Recognised course in Teaching and Assessing in practice ENB998 / SLICE / mentorship or equivalent
12. Completion of appropriate management and leadership programme
13. Teaching and Assessment recognised qualification
Desirable criteria
14. Management / Leadership Course desirable
15. Recognised qualification in Older Peoples Care, Dementia or Rehabilitation
16. Evidence of further continued professional development
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
17. Experience as a Band 6; Experience post registration and within the NHS
18. Previous experience as shift/team leader
19. Experience of teaching students, HCA’s and qualified staff
20. Previous experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring
Desirable criteria
21. Proven track record of innovation and leadership in Medicine for Older People
22. Proven track record in change management, team leadership and performance management
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
23. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
24. Ability to work required shift pattern
25. Proven ability to utilise word, power point and excel to a level of producing documents, reports.
26. Evidence of participation in audit, research and development of staff
Desirable criteria
27. Proven track record with dealing with human resource concerns
28. Proven ability to analyse highly complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

30. The post holder may be required to work across all sites and will be required to travel between the sites in a timely manner
