Technology Programme Director – Future ERP - Finance

Royal Mail is embarking on a once‑in‑a‑generation transformation to modernise the organisation and replace its fragmented, end‑of‑life SAP estate. Our Future ERP programme will simplify and digitise the way we operate, enabling faster, more efficient processes, stronger commercial performance, and a modern technology foundation that supports the long‑term success of the business.

Finance sits at the heart of this change. Today’s landscape is constrained by outdated systems, manual processes, inconsistent data and complex commercial operations. Future ERP will address these challenges head‑on by delivering modern SAP S/4HANA capabilities that elevate Finance into a strategic partner for the organisation, strengthen decision‑making, and enable a more agile, digitally‑enabled workforce.

To lead this critical transformation, we are recruiting a Technology Programme Director – Future ERP (Finance).

About the Role

This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for delivering the Finance workstream of the Future ERP programme. You will oversee two major releases — Accelerated Finance and Enhanced Finance — along with additional Finance initiatives that form part of the wider roadmap.

You will drive clarity of scope, rigorous planning, disciplined execution and strong governance across all Finance programme components. Working closely with senior Finance leaders, technology teams and external delivery partners, you will ensure that SAP S/4HANA Core Finance capabilities are delivered securely, compliantly and in alignment with enterprise architecture.

You will lead a multidisciplinary internal team of around 20 project managers, architects, business analysts and SMEs, ensuring alignment across business, technology and supplier teams.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead end‑to‑end delivery of the Finance workstream, including Accelerated Finance, Enhanced Finance and related initiatives.

* Develop and maintain an integrated programme plan across internal teams and suppliers, ensuring dependencies, risks and issues are effectively managed.

* Operate strong governance and transparent reporting to support timely, informed decision‑making.

* Hold internal teams and suppliers to account for scope, schedule, cost, quality and risk commitments.

* Partner with senior Finance stakeholders to ensure alignment to target processes, business readiness and programme sponsorship.

* Ensure high‑quality SAP S/4HANA Core Finance solution design that is secure, compliant, scalable and aligned with enterprise architecture.

* Oversee operational readiness and transition to BAU in partnership with Service Management.

* Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing programme team.

* Champion compliance, security and risk management across all programme deliverables.

About You

* Proven experience delivering large‑scale ERP or Finance transformation programmes, ideally involving SAP S/4HANA.

* Strong understanding of SAP S/4HANA Core Finance capabilities (GL, AP/AR, Fixed Assets, Controlling, Cash Management).

* Exceptional programme leadership skills across complex, multi‑workstream environments.

* Strong financial acumen and the ability to partner effectively with senior Finance leaders.

* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

* Experience managing suppliers and System Integrators in large enterprise environments.

* Demonstrable capability in governance, risk management and structured delivery methodologies.

* A track record of delivering secure, compliant and scalable technology solutions.

* The ability to lead and inspire high‑performing teams in a fast‑moving environment.
