Role purpose

Responsible for the care and cultivation of The Alnwick Garden and Lilidorei

Duties and Responsibilities

To undertake a comprehensive range of horticulture tasks to a very high standard including

* Planting and pruning.
* Maintaining The Garden to a high standard.
* Working well and safely with machines.
* Pond maintenance.
* Ensuring The Alnwick Garden is pest and disease controlled.
* Hedge cutting to a high standard.
* Lawn Maintenance.
* Look after, maintain and, where possible, repair machinery
* Maintaining good plant knowledge.
* Assisting with the survey of correctness of plant labels.
* Maintaining a positive working relationship with garden volunteers
* Assisting in the installation and removal of displays, exhibitions and decorations specific to The Alnwick Garden events programme, including Christmas, Halloween and summer holiday related themes.
* Any other duties as requested by senior members of the team / organisation to enable the smoothing running of The Garden.

Person Specification

The successful applicant will have

* A solid foundation of gardening knowledge and experience
* Experience of working in a garden or gardening environment
* Good interpersonal skills
* Ability to undertake gardening tasks to a good standard including hedge cutting, lawn maintenance and plant care.
* An understanding of gardening machinery and maintenance
* The capacity to work collaboratively and enthusiastically with teams and individuals at all levels of the organisation
* Capacity to respond to flexible work patterns with some weekend work required
* Ability to work in a values driven organisation
* Driving licence (desirable)
